The mayor arrived in a fire truck: Just eight months after the groundbreaking ceremony, the “Arbeitswelten am Prager Ring” in Aachen was already celebrating its topping-out ceremony. The sustainable new office building, featuring nearly 9,000 square meters of office and communal space, is scheduled to be completed on time by the end of 2026.

Strategic Relocation: Ericsson Chooses Aachen as Its Innovation Hub
The main tenant, Ericsson Eurolab, is relocating from neighboring Herzogenrath to Aachen. The Landmarken new building will enable Ericsson to provide spaces where employees can come together flexibly, says Jan Peter Meyer-Kahlen, Vice President and Head of the ICT Development Center Eurolab at Ericsson. “We develop new ideas and foster a corporate culture full of innovative spirit. That’s why it’s essential for us that our spaces are flexible, inspiring, and collaborative. Eurolab’s new work environment will serve as a flagship project within the Ericsson Group for new hybrid workplace models.”
A wealth of expertise: 5,500 square meters for the future
Eurolab employs around 500 highly qualified staff, including experts in software development, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, machine learning, smart manufacturing, and the Internet of Things (IoT). With approximately 5,500 square meters, Ericsson occupies about 61 percent of the total space. Much to the delight of Aachen’s new mayor, who highlighted Ericsson’s tremendous innovative strength and sees Aachen, with its universities, as the perfect location for it: “It’s great that modern work environments are being created here for this research, but also for other innovative companies,” said Dr. Michael Ziemons, who proved himself a friend of pragmatic solutions. Since no official vehicle was available at the time, he simply used a vehicle from the city fire department to make the trip.
The new building is being constructed and equipped according to the latest sustainability standards and ergonomic principles. The building offers employees a modern research and work environment with flexible office spaces. The rooftop terrace, the inner courtyard, and the spacious foyer provide a pleasant atmosphere even beyond working hours.
