"Ahoy": Steffen Henssler opens restaurant in Bonn
Following the completion of the hotel on Erzbergerufer and its opening by prizeotel last year, Landmarken AG can now also announce the long-term lease of the restaurant on the ground floor. In late summer, the Ahoi restaurant chain owned by renowned TV chef Steffen Henssler will open its doors here on 770 square meters of space. There will also be a 260-square-meter outdoor terrace.
At Ahoi, the name says it all. The typical Henssler cuisine is closely linked to the water, which fits perfectly with the location on the banks of the Rhine in Bonn. The restaurants owned by the well-known TV chef and cookbook author serve delicious fish and chips, burgers, steaks, and colorful bowls in the classic "Henssler style." The 13th location of the restaurant chain, which is mainly based in waterfront locations in northern Germany such as Hamburg, Scharbeutz, Travemünde, and Otterndorf, is now opening in Bonn. "With the new opening of the restaurant in Bonn, we are delighted to now have two locations in North Rhine-Westphalia, in addition to the one in Cologne, and to have found a strong anchorage for Ahoi in Landmarken AG," says Henssler.
Ahoi, an important building block for the Landmarken concept
In addition to offering food and beverages, Ahoi will also implement the building's landmark concept as a cultural location and, together with hotel operator prizeotel, will use the outdoor area, which opens onto the Rhine, as a city stage. Here, as in the hotel foyer, regular cultural events such as open-air cinema, readings, and concerts will be held.
For Landmarken, gastronomy is an important component of the project concept, which from the outset involved more than just a hotel. "By leasing the restaurant space, we are not only completing the project conceptually, but also bringing the riverbank to life," says Frederike Krinn, project manager and head of Landmarken's Rhine-Main branch. "In Ahoi, we have found a tenant who, like prizeotel, fits in with our philosophy of creating a place for Bonn residents and guests alike and hosting wonderful events there."
One highlight is the location facing the Rhine
The project arose from Landmarken's success in a municipal investor competition for the 3,100-square-meter site. The result is a new building with a gross floor area of almost 10,000 square meters, which, in addition to 214 hotel rooms and the Ahoi restaurant, features a rooftop bar and an inner courtyard. A highlight—not only for restaurant guests—is the outdoor area facing the Rhine. The terrace-like design and cleverly planned walkways in and around the building elegantly overcome the height difference of around five meters. This brings the city to the Rhine and provides access to the river that did not previously exist in the center of Bonn. The project had already received the polis Award in silver in the Reactivated Centers category for this feature. Most recently, it was awarded the Brownfield Award in bronze.
The building, designed by kadawittfeldarchitektur, has been certified with DGNB Gold for exceptional sustainability. The decisive factors here are not only its energy efficiency with district heating, water-saving concept, and lighting control. By constructing the building on top of the existing bunker, it was also possible to reduce the volume of building materials used. The brick façade allows for a recyclable construction method and the use of natural materials, while the green roof cools the building and promotes biodiversity.
