Another building block for revitalizing the city center: a pub is coming to the Neuen Höfe Herne
Herne. Southern German cuisine and a hearty atmosphere: a Bavarian-inspired tavern is moving into the Neue Höfe Herne. In future, a varied range of food and drink will be available all day long on the ground floor around a large central bar and in the outdoor area.
The concept complements the existing offerings at Robert-Brauner-Platz and will help to revitalize this inner city area. The lease, which covers around 550 square meters including outdoor space, is for a term of 15 years. The opening is scheduled for spring 2021.
"We are delighted to soon be bringing a touch of Bavarian flair to the city center with white sausage, pork knuckle, or a hearty snack," says future operator Britta Rommel. "We are convinced that Robert-Brauner-Platz will develop into a lively meeting place for young and old. It is important to us that the people of Herne will increasingly want to meet up in their own city to go out. This goal can only be achieved through a varied and larger range of restaurants and cafes, and we would very much like to contribute to this."
The city of Herne also views the development positively: "For Herne, this is another important step on the way to revitalizing the city center and enriching the city's restaurant scene. The Neuen Höfe are thus developing an additional attraction that benefits the entire area," says Mayor Dr. Frank Dudda.
New urban building blocks
"It's great that we have now been able to realize this important component of our concept for the Neue Höfe Herne," said Christian Lothmann, who is responsible for leasing at Landmarken. Thomas Binsfeld, member of the project developer's management board, also emphasized this: "We have to counter the decline of retail with new, urban building blocks that attract people to city centers. Our mix of uses is designed to make the Neue Höfe a new attraction. In addition to offices, a fitness studio, and small-scale retail, attractive dining options are simply part of the package." This will make Robert-Brauner-Platz a place where people enjoy spending time.
With the "Neue Höfe Herne" concept, Landmarken AG, together with HPP Architects, won the municipal competition for the development of the former Hertie department store in 2016. The conversion of the commercial building, which has been vacant since 2009, into a sustainable property with various uses is in full swing. The first office spaces will be handed over to their tenants this fall. With the Fläkt Group, office operator Regus, the McFit gym, and now the restaurant, almost three-quarters of the total space has been leased. Around 1,300 square meters of office space and smaller areas for retail and restaurants are still available.
This was preceded by extensive renovation work. Among other things, the listed façade was restored and concrete ceilings had to be extensively renovated. To bring light into the building, two courtyards were cut into the top, giving the project its name. Thomas Binsfeld: "The Neue Höfe Herne enhance Robert-Brauner-Platz and are an important building block for revitalizing the city center."
