Residential neighborhood nominated: a "good friend" for the people

Our residential quarter "Guter Freund" has the chance to win the first-ever "Real Estate Social Impact Investing Award 2022." The landmark project, now operated by our sister company Stadtmarken GmbH, has been nominated in the top five in the "Projects already implemented" category. The decision will be made on December 1, when the awards will be presented at the Corporate Responsibility Day in Berlin.

The award was initiated by the Institute for Corporate Governance in the German Real Estate Industry (ICG) in cooperation with Immobilien Manager Verlag. The criteria for evaluating the applications are based on the social taxonomy published in February of this year. They cover the impact on people, society, and the environment, as well as the governance of the project, with varying weightings.

As a neighborhood that "in the best sense of the word is a good friend to its residents and the city, because its realization has transformed the abandoned and neglected brownfield site of a former military depot into affordable, beautiful apartments of good quality and in an integrated location," the "Good Friend" made it onto the shortlist of the expert jury.

over 70% of the 248 apartments in the neighborhood are publicly subsidized. The remaining apartments are privately financed and fall within the mid-price range. A daycare center and a senior day care center are integrated into the neighborhood, and residents are also offered numerous services. Some of these, such as e-mobility sharing services, also serve the neighborhood.

The neighborhood's pioneering role in high-quality subsidized housing construction is recognized nationwide and even internationally. The concept won the polis Award in the "Urban Land Recycling" category back in 2016. This was followed in 2020 by the immobilienmanager Award and the B24 Brownfield Award 2020. The neighborhood also won the FIABCI Prix d'Excellence Germany in bronze and was nominated for the ULI Europe Award for Excellence.
