With Hansator, we have completely rethought the concept of train stations..
The development of the east side of Münster's main railway station has significance far beyond the Westphalian metropolis, as was already clear at the groundbreaking ceremony at the end of November:
While just a few meters away, the so-called Mäkler, a giant milling machine from the Dutch specialist company Winmix, dug through the ground, Ina Scharrenbach, among others, courageously grabbed a tool. The North Rhine-Westphalia Minister of Construction, who had traveled to Münster especially for the groundbreaking ceremony, was assisted by Mayor Markus Lewe, Deutsche Bahn representative Werner Lübberink, architect Gerd Wittfeld, and Landmarken CEO Jens Kreiterling, among others.
Since then, a lot has already happened at the prominently located construction site. The shoring to secure the pit has been installed, and anchors are currently being set along the edge of the construction site for this purpose. Construction of the shell is expected to begin in the southern part of the construction site in June.
Landmarken AG is developing an urban district with space for residential, restaurant, and retail use, as well as an economy design hotel operated by prizeotel, on the approximately 8,200 m² brownfield site. The design submitted jointly with kadawittfeldarchitektur, consisting of three buildings connected by a base floor, was unanimously selected as the winner in an investor selection process organized by the city and the railway company.
"Our multifunctional concept sees the station as part of the district and aims to create added value for the entire surrounding area," says Landmarken CEO Jens Kreiterling. "Now we are fulfilling our promise to attractively connect the Hansaviertel with the city center."
This also pleases Mayor Markus Lewe, who emphasized the significance for Münster and its citizens at the groundbreaking ceremony: "I am already looking forward to the final step, when the east side of the main station will be built. Then the main station will finally have two attractive sides. Everything will come together to form a magnificent holistic appearance, and the main station will be not only a transport hub but also a central link between the old town, the Ostviertel district, and the harbor quarter."
