In 2020, Landmarken AG prepared its first ecological corporate balance sheet retroactively for 2019. This included emissions from the electricity and heating supply for the office spaces at the Aachen and Münster locations, fuel consumption for company and pool cars, and employee mobility (rough estimate). The balance sheet was prepared and audited by Climate Partner.
The largest share of the emissions accounted for was attributable to employee commuting and electricity consumption. Employee commuting was initially only roughly estimated and, with a safety buffer, tended to be overestimated. Landmarken AG already supports its employees in their transition to more climate-friendly mobility by offering e-bike leasing and financial support for public transport tickets.
A large part of the remaining emissions were attributable to electricity consumption in the office spaces in Aachen and Münster. Here, consumption was approximately 30 kWh/m² per year, which is below the average value of 35-70 kWh/m² per year specified by Energieagentur.NRW.
Even before this balance sheet was drawn up, at the beginning of 2020, the electricity supply contracts for the company's own business premises and a largepart of the properties located in Aachen managed by Landmarken AG to green electricity from 100% renewable energies, certified with the OK Power seal of approval, which will significantly change the CO2 value attributable to electricity in future balances.
Nevertheless, the Landmarken Executive Board has decided to offset the emissions reported for 2019 by investing in a local forest reforestation project, thereby making its business processes climate-neutral.
