A former industrial site is being transformed into a neighborhood
Landmarken AG is developing a new mixed-use district with a focus on residential living on the approximately 31,000 square meter Siebeck site in Ratingen.
The ambitious project kicked off with an urban planning and open space design workshop involving four participating architectural firms, which provided the basis for the development plan. The winning design was submitted by the Cityförster office in Hanover together with the Cologne-based landscape architects from urbanegestalt.
"Early and open dialogue with local residents and businesses is important to us. We are convinced that this will not only benefit the community, but also strengthen the location itself and enable the quality of the newly created urban spaces to be optimally designed." (Ingo Grube)
The aim of further planning is to create commercial uses such as offices, additional living space for the population of Ratingen, and other social facilities to complement the planned residential development and the existing commercial structure of the surrounding area. Due to current demand in Ratingen and the demand generated by the new development in the planning area itself, a daycare center and other social facilities are being considered within the planning area.
