New urban vitality
An urban development project that focused not on individual projects from the outset, but on the entire neighborhood. For this, the ensemble on Theaterplatz was awarded the polis Award in silver in the category of reactivated centers.
Where five buildings between Kapuzinergraben and Elisabethstraße had been acquired by several previous owners over time, Landmarken developed a high-quality urban ensemble as a wholenbsp; The partially vacant block of buildings opposite the Aachen Theater, including a bank building over 100 years old, has thus become a groundbreaking project development.
The mix of historic buildings and new construction with sophisticated architecture creates a revitalizing urban mix of uses in the city center. The concept being implemented comprises a hotel (Motel One), office building (Bankhaus am Theater), and student apartments (WE PARTMENT – Leben am Elisengarten), bringing new urban vitality to this previously neglected location.
We saw Theaterplatz as the right place and are sustainably upgrading the surrounding area as a catalyst. The inner-city location is being reactivated and is becoming one of the best locations in Aachen. In addition, the project has already provided impetus for citizen-friendly traffic planning with a spatial expansion and revitalization of Theaterplatz, which is being reintegrated into city life in a more attractive way.
