Revitalizing the center with mixed use
With the conversion of the department store, we want to contribute to strengthening Aachen's city center. A building application has been submitted for a modern mixed-use property with attractive office and working environments, space for services and research, and retail outlets for local supply.
An exciting alternative could be its use as a "House of Curiosity," which is currently being examined by the city of Aachen. This would create a new, open place for encounters, exchange, learning, and knowledge, and a driving force for the development of the city center. A place where the adult education center and the city library could jointly expand and interlink their offerings. There would also be room here for complementary uses such as a café or local suppliers.
With a new façade and a permeable ground floor, the currently closed building would open up and, with a new usage concept, clearly establish the location as a hub between Dahmengraben and the newly emerging Büchelquartier. A bicycle parking garage is also conceivable.
