A new approach to school construction

With our comprehensive expertise in educational construction and neighborhood development, we are the ideal partner for connecting schools and neighborhoods. We are convinced that our innovative spatial concepts will make a lasting contribution to a livable future. That is why we design educational buildings to be open to multiple uses.

Especially in times of ambitious climate targets and scarce resources, it is important to configure the property in such a way that the majority of the space can be used for multiple purposes, filling the school building with life even outside of teaching hours. Our vision is to create a spatial program that provides the ideal location for every form of learning, every school-related activity, and open all-day schooling, while also creating social and economic added value.

Our concepts not only enable the school building to be used outside of regular teaching hours, but also allow for hybrid uses. For example, a supermarket could be integrated on the ground floor and student apartments on the upper floorshowever, the school building can be used for more than just real estate. We believe that education, in combination with club life, social offerings, events, or cultural and creative industries, can create a space that is also used outside of regular school hours. Our concepts aim to create and promote this space.

Growing demand for new school buildings

The German education infrastructure faces major challenges. In recent decades, only a fraction of the necessary renewal investments have been made, resulting in dilapidated buildings and outdated spatial structures. This means that modern requirements for schools can only be met to a limited extent. At the same time, an increase of around one million students is expected by 2030, which will create an additional need for new schools. According to KfW, the investment requirement in the municipal sector alone amounts to 40 to 50 billion euros over the next five to ten years.

However, given the renovation backlog, limited budgetary resources, and staff shortages, many municipalities are unable to meet the urgent need for school development. This is where Landmarken comes in. We are developers of the cities of the future and contribute our expertise and know-how to meet the need for new school buildings.

That's why we're developing the schools of tomorrow

Experience with educational buildings

They are often part of landmark neighborhoods: our daycare centers, which offer the best spatial conditions for all concepts of early childhood education and care. We are one of Germany's leading project developers in the field of university and research buildings and campus developments. With multi-use buildings for conferences, seminars, and lectures, workshops, research halls, and laboratories, we create space for development. Our many years of experience in the development of learning spaces and a robust network of planning and implementation partners enable us to act efficiently and quickly.

Create added value

As landmarks, we strive to make cities better and more livable. Social benefits arise from the development of ecologically sustainable, vibrant places and the harmonious integration of the people we inspire and motivate. Our work shapes a place for decades. That is why it is in our DNA to create vibrant landmarks that serve the city and its people in the best possible way. This is how we achieve a positive impact. We measure success not only in terms of economic returns, but also in the number of learning spaces created, the satisfaction and health of learners and teachers, the lowest possible carbon footprint, and a positive impact on the neighborhood.

Trust of public users

As a partner to cities, Landmarken enjoys the trust of many local authorities and public users. Whether Düsseldorf, Herne, Münster, Bonn, or Dortmund: these and many other cities have opted for Landmarken developments in urban planning competitions and investor selection processes. Public users such as the North Rhine-Westphalia tax office, various job centers, health insurance companies, and professional associations also trust in landmark quality as tenants.
